Itinerary

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 a.m. and take you on a 20-minute bus ride just outside of the city to visit Sacsayhuaman. At this former Incan fortress, you will see very impressive Inca stonework, made of incredibly large stones cut and fitted with extreme accuracy. It is impossible not to feel the energy of this place! From Sacsayhuaman, you will also have the chance to enjoy an impressive view over the city of Cusco.

You will continue your bus ride to other nearby ruins such as Q’enqo, Pukapukara, and finally Tambomachay. After visiting these sites, you will take a 20-minute bus ride to return to Cusco for lunch.

Once you have enjoyed your lunch in Cusco, we will travel for one hour to the salt mines of Maras. At Maras, you will see the pans fed by saline spring water that are built on steep terraces along one side of a narrow valley. The water is sent throughout the pans by a network of channels and slowly evaporates, leaving the salt behind. Salt has been collected from Maras since Pre-Incan times, and it is thought that a collective of salt ‘miners’ has maintained the terraces and channels for hundreds of years.

We will then continue our journey to Moray in order to see the fascinating site used by the Incas for agricultural experiments and cultivating seeds. There you can learn how they cleverly designed a drainage system at the bottom to avoid flooding during the rainy season.

On our way to return to Cusco, we will stop in Chincheros, a town where the local people will give you a fascinating explanation of how the wool is washed and dyed using native plants and minerals. You will have time in Chincheros for a quick visit to the famous church and archeological site before we return to Cusco at about 6:30-7:00 p.m.
