Summary

Day 1: Arrival to Lima

We will greet you at the airport in Lima and take you to your hotel in Lima. Depending on the arrival time of your flight, you may choose to visit some tourist attractions in the city, such as the Gold Museum.

Day 2: Arrival to Cusco and afternoon city tour

We will greet you at the airport and settle you into your hotel in Cusco. In the afternoon, you will have a city tour of the historical sites in Cusco.

Day 3: The Sacred Valley of the Incas

Day 4: Cusco – Mollepata – Salkantay Pass – Huayracmachay

Today we will start the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. We will start the Trek by climbing up to the Salkantay Pass, the highest point on the trek, before desending to our campsite in Huayracmachay.

Day 5: Huayracmachay – Colpapampa – Lucma Bamba

We will continue our downhill trek into the cloud forest of Qolpapampa. As we enter a sub-tropical climate, your guide will show you locally growing fruit and coffee plants.

Day 6: La Playa – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes

On the third day of the trek, we will hike to Llactapata, an Incan fort from which we will catch our first glimpse of Machu Picchu. After enjoying this view, we will head down to the Hydroelectric Plant in the valley where we will board our train to Aguas Calientes and spend the night in a hostel there.

Day 7: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

In the morning we will have a tour of one of the modern wonders of the world, Machu Picchu. After exploring this amazing site, we will travel back to Cusco by train and bus.

Day 8: Cusco – Andahuaylillas – Raqchi – La Raya Pass – Puno

Today you will have a bus tour of the countryside while on your way to Puno, a city situated on the banks of Lake Titicaca. We will make stops at Andahuaylillas, considered the Sistine Chapel of the Andes and the Incan temple of Raqchi. As we near Puno, we will also stop at La Raya Pass to take in the spectacular view of the Andes before we arrive in Puno and stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 9: Tour Uros Floating Islands & stay in a Homestay on Amantani Island

You will be picked up from your hotel in Puno early in the morning and driven to the pier to take a motor boat towards the Uros Floating Islands. Upon arriving, we will walk on the reed islands and interact with the native people.We will continue to Amantani Island where we will tour the island and spend the night with a local family.

Day 10: Taquile Island and return to Puno

We will continue our tour of Lake Titicaca to Taquile Island, where the locals are known for their fine handwoven textiles and clothing which are regarded as among the highest-quality handicrafts in Peru. After visiting this Island, we will return to Puno where you will stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 11: Puno – Arequipa

In the morning we will board a flight to Arequipa. After you have checked into your hotel, you will have an afternoon city tour of the main attractions in Arequipa.

Day 12: Arequipa – Chivay – Colca Canyon

After breakfast we will start our journey to Colca Canyon, on the way stopping at Pampas Cañahuas, the Mirador of the Andes, the crater of Chucura, and the mirador of Chivay. We will arrive in the town of Chivay in the afternoon where you can enjoy the hot springs and enjoy a nice dinner.

Day 13: Chivay – Condor’s Cross – Arequipa

From Chivay, we will drive to Condor’s Cross, a spectacular viewpoint where you will take in the breathtaking Canyon. We will then make our way back to Arequipa, first stopping at the cliffside Tombs and the Hanging Bridge of Sifón.

Day 14: Arequipa – Lima

After breakfast, we will take you to the airport for your flight to Lima. After you arrive in Lima you can relax in your hotel or explore some of the many tourists attractions in Peru’s capital city.

Day 15: Lima – End of tour

On the final day of our tour, we will take you to the airport for your fight home, or wherever your travels take you!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Lima.

We will meet you in the Lima airport and take you to Hotel Santa Cruz, located in Miraflores, Lima. Depending on the arrival time of your international flight, you will have the possibility of an optional visit to the gold museum. Entrace to the museum is S/33 per person, not included in the price of this tour.

Day 2: Arrival to Cusco and afternoon city tour

In the morning we will take you to the Lima airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon your arrival in Cusco, we will transfer you to the hotel of your choice within the city. After you arrive, you will have free time to take a short rest and adjust to the high altitude of the city. In the afternoon, you will have a sightseeing tour of Cusco with stops at the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun, or “Korikancha”. We will continue the tour by driving out of the City to visit the Inca sites of Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, built strategically on a hill overlooking Cusco. This site is famous for its enormous carved stones laid with amazing precision to form the outer walls. Some of these stones stand over 9m / 30ft tall, and weight over 350 tons.

Day 3: The Sacred Valley of the Incas

Our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 a.m.You will take a bus ride for 40 minutes, passing through scenic villages. Along the way, we will make a stop to marvel at the classic view of the Urubamba River snaking its way through the valley.Finally, we will arrive at the small village of Pisac, where you can walk through its lively artison market. You will also have some free time to interact with the townsfolk and artisans and to shop for handicrafts and souvenirs.

After exploring Pisac’s famous market, we will take you to explore the Pisac Ruins. After exploring the ruins high above the Sacred Valley, we will continue our scenic journey to Urubamba, the heart of the Sacred Valley, where we will stop for lunch. After a buffet lunch, we will take you to the amazing and historic town of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo is a classic Incan city which still features the traditional urban construction of narrow streets adjacent to flowing streams. In the upper part of the town, there is an impressive ceremonial center which was dedicated to the worship of water and a mighty fortress that protected the access point to the lower part of the valley.

After spending time in this special city, you will board a bus back to Cusco to spend the night in your hotel.

Day 4: Cusco – Mollepata – Salkantay Pass – Huayracmachay

We will pick you up at 5:00 a.m. from your hotel and travel by private van to the village of Mollepata in the lush Apurimac valley before continuing twards the village of Soraypamapa, at an elevation of (4000m/12,750ft). After a light breakfast that will be provided by our company, we will start hiking up a moderate climb for two and a half hours until we reach Soyrococha where we will stop for lunch. After an energizing lunch, We will continue walking uphill for one more hour until we reach the Salkantay Pass, located at (4600m/15,100ft). From this point, we can soak up the spectacular views of Salkantay Mountain and the surrounding peaks. It is traditional to leave a small rock carried from the bottom of the mountain at the pass as a present for the mountain spirit. After celebrating conquering the pass, we will continue downhill for two hours to our first campsite, Huayracmachay, located at (3800m/12,540ft). Once at the campsite, we will have dinner and get plenty of rest for the day to come.

Day 5: Huayracmachay – Colpapampa – Lucma bamba

After breakfast, we will continue our downhill trek for three and a half hours, entering the start of the rain forest, Qolpapampa, at (2500m/8,350ft) where we will stop for lunch. After lunch we will cross the Lluskamayo River and a variety of small streams. We will also pass through gorgeous valleys and have wonderful views of waterfalls. Your guide will show you naturally growing tropical fruits and native plants and flowers along the way to our second campsite, Lucma Bamba, at an elevation of (2500m/8,350ft).

Day 6: La Playa – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes

In the morning, we will leave the village of La Playa and start a three hour climb to reach Llactapata, located at (2.700m/8910ft). Llactapata is an incredible Inca fort from which we will enjoy our first view of Machu Picchu! After pausing to take some incredible pictures and a brief rest, we will descend for two hours to the Hydroelectric Plant where we will have our final lunch. At 4:00 p.m. we will take a train to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night. Once in Aguas Calientes, we will enjoy a celebratory dinner and the comfort of beds and hot showers at a local hostel. You will also have the option to take advantage of the thermal springs in the evening which give the town its name. Entrance to the springs is 10 soles.

Day 7: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

We will wake up early for breakfast on the final day of the trek. You will have two options to arrive to Machu Picchu: 1) You can hike for one and a half hours from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu by way of the famous stairs, or 2) You can take a bus to the entrance of Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes. By waking up early, you will witness the magnificent sunrise at this ancient Inca city and have a few hours to explore before most of the tourists arrive. Once you enter Machu Picchu, you will have a 2 hour guided tour of the city. After the tour, you will have free time for you own exploration of this ancient Inca site.

When you finish exploring Machu Picchu, you will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes for lunch where he/she will give you your train ticket for your return trip to Cusco.

Day 8: Cusco – Andahuaylillas – Raqchi – La Raya Pass – Puno

We will pick you up from your hotel at 6:30 p.m. and drive you to our first stop, Andahuaylillas, the sistine chapel of the Andes. We will then drive to the Inca temple of Raqchi, and have a delicious buffet lunch in the town of Sicuani. You will also observe the wonderful views of the Andes from the high La Raya Pass and learn about the pre-Inca Pukara culture in the Museum of Pukara. This tour will open your eyes to a part of Peru missed by many tourists while you continue your journey through Peru from Cusco to the gateway of Lake Titicaca, Puno.

Day 9: Tour Uros Floating Islands & stay in a Homestay on Amantani Island.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Puno early in the morning and driven to the pier to take a motor boat towards the Uros Floating Islands. Upon arriving, we will walk on the reed islands and interact with the native people. Later, there is a chance for you to ride a handmade reed boat (for extra charge of US $3.00). We will then continue our journey towards “Amantani Island”, where we will spend the rest of the day and the night. Upon arrival, a group of native families will meet us at the pier, and take us to their homes for lodging. In the afternoon we will walk up to the highest point of the island to explore the ancient ruins the locals call Pachatata. From these ruins, we will have beautiful views of the landscape in time to witness the sunset over the lake. Soon after nightfall, we will descend to the main plaza to meet our local family and return to their home for dinner. (Remember to mind your head when entering their small doorways). After dinner, our visitors are invited to a local party which takes place at the main folklore saloon and it is accompanied by one of the local bands. After enjoying the festivities, you will go back to your homestay to sleep.

Day 10: Taquile Island and return to Puno

You will wake up around 8:00 a.m. in time for a tasty breakfast. Afterwords, we walk down to the harbor to take the boat towards Taquile Island, the trip will take approximately 1 hour. Taquile is a traditional Quechua speaking community full of ancient agricultural terraces. The weaving tradition is part of the culture here and dates back to early pre-incan civilizations; all weaving is done by hand. Once we arrive on the island, we will walk up along a narrow path, enjoying the impressive views of Lake Titicaca and Amantani Island. At the village, you will have free time to explore on your own and eat lunch at one of the local restaurants ( for an extra charge). Later, we walk down to the pier to take our motor boat back to Puno. We will arrive in Puno at 4:00 p.m. and you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 11: Puno– Arequipa

In the mornig, we will board a bus to Arequipa. After we have arrived we will start a three hour sightseeing tour in the afternoon. The tour includes the Santa Catalina Convent, the Plaza de Armas, the Jesuit Church of La Compañía and its beautifully-painted Chapel, the Church of San Francisco, the San Lazaro District, Selva Alegre and the districts of Cayma and Yanahuara. From here will will have a magnificent view of the Misti Volcano. In the evening we will return to the hotel to have a delicious dinner.

Day 12: Arequipa – Chivay – Colca Canyon

After breakfast we will start our journey to Colca Canyon, on the way stopping at Pampas Cañahuas, the Mirador of the Andes, the crater of Chucura, and the mirador of Chivay. We will arrive in the town of Chivay at approximately 1 p.m. where we will check you into the hotel of your choice. In the afternoon you will have some free time in which you may visit the town’s hot springs and medicinal baths.

Day 13: Chivay – Condor’s Cross – Arequipa

We will start our day early in the morning by driving to Condor’s pass, a natural observation point where you can take in the majestic views of Colca canyon and observe the famous Andean Condors in flight. On the way back to Chivay, we will visit to the Mirador of Chinina, where we will find the famous cliffside Tombs and the Hanging Bridge of Sifón which joins the Town of Yanque with Coporaque. After we visit these places, we will drive to a few more passes which also offer spectacular views of the canyon. We will return to Arequipa at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Day 14: Arequipa – Lima

After breakfast, we will take you to the airport for your flight to Lima. After you arrive in Lima you can relax in your hotel or explore some of the many tourists attractions in Peru’s capital city.

Day 15: Lima – End of tour

On the final day of our tour, we will take you to the airport for your fight home, or wherever your travels take you!
